Learn everything about Website cost, best way of making one, and why.
I hope you will agree with me on this:
Business in 2017/18 without a website is not a business!
When I say this I mean any business.
There is only one thing you should think about when it comes to getting a website for your business, and that’s Website Cost.
I’ve also go out there and found some development companies, ask them for price. And I will present all the information that I get in this article.
Reasons of having a Website for your Business
There are a lot benefits for you and your business of having a nice looking, responsive website. Why?
In 2015 research by Verisign Inc. (Leader In Domain Names And Internet Security) clearly shows that a Website plays a critical role in creating a successful business.
I feel like research can be very boring to read, but hey – everything for Successful Business. Here is a list of reasons, and what consumers and business owners say:
1. To be found
Research shows 9 of 10 potential customers are looking for goods or services on Internet. And 88% of small business owners say that a website makes it easier to find them.
2. Website gives your business credibility
84% of consumers believe business with website is more credible then business with just social media pages. Also 65% of them say professional email address (firstname.lastname@example.org) is more credible then generic email names like @yahoo.com, @gmail.com.
3. More Customers
64% of Consumers BUY from businesses they can contact online.
4. Scale and Grow your business
81% of business owners believe a website has helped them grow their business.
5. Competitive Advantage
Same as you other people think about making website for their business. And guess what, not a lot of them decide to go for it. You will hear a lot of them say “I feel like we don’t need a website now” & “Website cost is too high for Us now”. All they’re doing by saying this is making up reasons why NOT to do it.
Successful Entrepreneurs think this way: If website can help my business, to grow or get 5 more customer per month, I’ll do it.
I’m going to focus mostly on Small Business website cost in this article and also we’ll talk about Personal Blog Cost
Ways To Build a Website
We now get to the point where you have to decide based on your Budget which way to go.
Do it yourself (FREE and PAID)
This is just one option, but I will consider you have no time to DIY or learn how to set up website on your own. I will just present you some things you might want to know. Learning and doing it yourself sometime can be frustrating and it can be long. Your time is not much more valuable that amount of money you’re going to save DIY way.
There are few way of making a website by yourself, I’m talking about ways you don’t have any coding skills. And you have some options.
I don’t want to get you confused. Now, there are 2 types of WordPress: WordPress.com and WordPress.org (Both platforms are FREE)
WordPress.com is for bloggers, you don’t have much space when it comes to functionality and customization.
If you want professional looking website, forget about this option.
You can easily create website with WordPress.org and you will get free domain as sub-domain with their .wordpress.com extension.
WordPress.ORG as a platform is free but you have to buy a hosting for this type of website.
Wix is also free website platforms. They have clean and modern design, and it’s very user friendly platform. Easy to work with and easy customize every part of their websites.
If you think about SEO, you should avoid Wix website.
They also have Free and Paid plans, so that you can try it for free and if you like it you can easily switch to Premium plan.
Blogger is Google’s product/platform for free websites. You get your sub-domain with their .blogspot.com root domain. They have just free platform anyone can do it, it’s a bit confusing and hard to start. And it’s so ugly when it comes to customizing something on Blogger website.
I wouldn’t recommend this platform for your website.
1. Wix and WordPress have also paid hosting website where you get more customizing options and more functionalities. I wouldn’t recommend this two for your website.
This might be good option for you, but it is more expensive then this other paid services.
I don’t know much about squarespace but it’s something like Wix.
I wouldn’t recommend doing any of this stuff for you considering you’re Business Owner and you have some business to take care of.
Let me break down costs for your website if you’re going to make it on your own.
Domain Name: From 3$ First year to 15$ Standard Price
Hosting: from 45$ to 250$ Per Year
Professional Premium Theme: for Business Corporate Theme from 40$ to 120$
So without paying somebody to make it for you, for one year, you will end up spending $150-$450 (DIY way).
Keep in mind that companies that develop this Professional Premium Themes have their own Marketing Specialist and Designers, and I believe some of them are making hell of a job researching and planing.
But again, DIY is really hard, so you shouldn’t bother with it.
Hire Freelancer or Agency
Check out results of my research down below.
When it comes to Freelancers, there are some pros and cons.
Good thing is that freelancers will charge less then some web development company. Freelancer will do the job and charge for it based on you Budget, so you never know that can you expect.
But with this being said, everything have price.
With freelancer you don’t much security and reliability. It’s one man show. Web Design and Development in general is not one man business. Designers and Developers have to work with each other in order to Improve their knowledge, get help when they need it.
Let’s say goes down and can’t be reached, you try to contact your freelancer hes not there. It’s like you close your store or company doors one day with no reason.
One bad thing is getting freelancer and paying him. You should register account on Freelancing platform, post your request, find your freelancer…
It’s a headache.
“Small Business” Website Cost Research
I’m now talking about “Small Business” website. Not website like Apple or Amazon.
First I’m going to make up some fake project and plan for my website. Let’s say I have a Small Construction Business in Portland, and of course I need a website, where people can meet my company and get in touch with me.
Of course your goal is to make website so that people form Portland can find you easily on google or other search engines that they use.
I’ve searched for web developing agencies in the US, I’ve sent 3 of them form first page of Google results email.
First response “All our websites are 2500$.” They didn’t ask what type of website, complexity or anything else.
This is big RED FLAG. this shows only thing they care about is 2500$, they don’t care about you or your business.
Second response large 4 page form, so they can evaluate how much would it cost. It took me 20 minutes just to read and understand what they want form me as a potential customer.
And I never get any response on my email from third company.
Here is one web development company online website cost calculator fro out simple business info website
We have to make difference here, between Building Website from Scratch and Building Website with Existing Material.
Building website from scratch is and it should be expensive, because look at this process to make website from scratch;
But keep in mind we are now talking “Small Business” website. So there is no need for all this steps, because why spend 15.000$ at this point.
One more online website cost calculator example
- 5 pages
- Template Design
- Responsive Design
Estimated Price is $1.550-$3.100
After you see some results and business growth, then you should consider investing some more money in your business website.
I want to be clear: There is no Excuse for Ugly website!!!
As we can see from this example, For simple info website you would probably end up paying around 2500$.
How Much a “Small Business” Website Really Cost?
I’m saying this again, This is small business website, one man company, with some information about business and contact form. No additional services or functionalities included.
If you want professional website, that can do this thing:
- Have ability to add and edit content without relying on someone else
- Have pages for different type of services you provide
- Contact Form
you’re looking to pay $2.000-6.000$ for your service info website.
Anything above 6000$ in my opinion is too much for this type of website.
Here is why.
Development company doesn’t need to build new technology to make it, they don’t need a lot of time to make it.
They need some time to design it, and 1 week max. to develop it.
Of course if you have all the content and basic layout idea before contacting development company.
“Paying Development Company To Build It”
If you want planning and additional functionalities and technologies, complex 10+ pages website can cost $10.000-25.000$.
Additional Services To Use When Building Small Business Website
If development company is providing this type of services, you should consider using them as well. Or maybe this list of services are included in one general website development service pack.
- Website Maintenance Services
- Website Analytics Services
- Local and On-Page Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
If you’re willing to pay for SEO services here is recommended list of questions you should ask them.
Questions recommended by Google.
- Can you show me examples of your previous work and share some success stories?
